Vi bor i Bjørvika / Living in Bjørvika

Vi bor i Bjørvika er en forfølging av målsetningene om en kulturelt og sosialt sammensatt bosetting i den nye bydelen Bjørvika, og Richard Floridas teorier om den kreative klasse og kunstneres betydning for byenes fremtid. Ønsker kunstnere og andre ”kreative” miljøer å bosette seg i Bjørvika, og ønsker utbyggerne og eiendomsforvalterne i Bjørvika de kreative menneskene? Hvordan kan det i så fall la seg gjennomføre innenfor rammene av byutviklingsprosjektet?
Prosjektet presenteres i første omgang som en utstilling med visuelt materiale og et forslag til bygning: Neve-huset.
Hvem skal bo i Bjørvika?
I Bjørvika vil det bygges ca 5000 boliger i løpet av de neste 15 årene. Noen er allerede solgt, mens andre er i forskjellige stadier av planlegging. Hvem har råd til å bo i Bjørvika og hvordan stiller utbyggerne seg til krav om en sosialt mangfoldig bydel? Er det ønskelig fra utbyggernes side å ha en permanent kunstnerisk tilstedeværelse som går utover den som finnes i institusjoner som Munch-museet og Operaen?
Geir Tore Holm og Søssa Jørgensen startet sitt arbeid med et enkelt ønske om å bo i Bjørvika.
I perioden prosjektet deres har vart, har det vist seg umulig for kunstnerne å bosette seg i den nye bydelen, verken midlertidig eller permanent.
I dag er det ingen boliger som står ferdige til å brukes. Spørsmålet er om det på nåværende tidspunkt kan arbeides med alternative løsninger i planleggingen, for eksempel kunstnerbosetninger?
Vilje til å realisere visjonene om sosialt og kulturelt mangfold må på plass i dag, med konkrete virkemidler både fra utbyggere, eiere og politikere.
Holm og Jørgensen har sammen med arkitekten Cecilia Sundberg utviklet Nevehuset, et forslag til bygg for en kunstnerbosetning i Bjørvika.
Sundberg (f. 1970) er arkitekt og bosatt i Gøteborg. Hun er utdannet ved Chalmers Tekniska Högskola (2008). Cecilia har arbeidet med teater, med rekvisitter og scenografi, og som keramiker. Arkitekturvirksomheten orienterer seg mot byggeprosjekter som inkluderer det offentlige rommet. Erfaring fra det å ta et sted i besittelse for tilfeldige arrangement har ført til samarbeidsprosjekter med skoleelever, i kommunal regi, der elever og arkitekt har ført opp byggekonstruksjoner på skolegårder og i byrom. Sammen med Rydals museum i Marks kommune og skolen i Fritsla pågår prosjektet FritslArt, der unges deltakelse i kunst og arkitektur skal styrke den lokale identiteten.

The notion of art as dialogue-in-practice has been central to the collaborative work of Holm and Jørgensen. In the project Living in Bjørvika, they investigate Richard Florida’s theories of the ’creative class’ and the goals of a culturally and socially diverse population for this new urban area of Oslo. Living in Bjørvika will present models and ideas for possible alternatives to the current plans for the area, with a view to addressing gaps in the projected framework.
Who will be living in Bjørvika?
During the next fifteen years there will be built around 5000 new houses. Some of these becoming homes are already sold, some are still in the planning phase. Who will afford living in Bjørvika, and how do the developers adjust to the requirements of a socially diverse neighbourhood?
Is it desirable for the developers to have a permanent artistic presence in the area that is external from the ones that is and will be present in the institutions like Much museum and the Opera?
Geir Tore Holm and Søssa Jørgensen started up their project, with a simple wish to be living in Bjørvika.
During their project-period, it has proved either permanently or temporary, to be impossible for the artists to settle in the new neighborhood of Oslo.
Currently there are no finished houses that are possible to be living in. The question is if there is any possibility today, to work with alternative solutions or ideas within the planning. For example Artist-housing?
The will to realize the visions of social and cultural diversity has to be on place today, with concrete agents both from the developers, owners and politicians. Some of the visions stated in official documents from the Municipality of Oslo and the planning bureau are presented in the the poster series Vi bor i Bjørvika/Living in Bjørvika.
Holm and Jørgensen have in collaboration with the architect Cecilia Sundberg developed an architectual model that is a proposal for an artist house, containing both stuidos and living facilities in Bjørvika. The house is built on the idea of a resting hand (Nevehuset).
Cecilia Sundberg (b. 1970) is an architect living in Gothenburg, with her training from Chalmers University of Technology (2008). Cecilia has worked with theatre, both making stage props and scenography, and also as an ceramist. Her architectural interest concerns building projects, which in several ways includes public space. Experiences from appropriation of places for temporary occasions led to projects in cooperation with pupils in municipal schools. In these projects the pupils and the architect sets up building constructions in schoolyards and other common places. Currently Cecilia is engaged in the project “FritslArt”, a collaboration between Rydals Museum in The municipality of Mark, and the school in Fritsla. The aim is to strengthen the local identity by getting young people involved in working with art and architecture.

Facts (translation of above text) Nevehuset has several living quarters and studios. It is open to the public via an café and exhibition space. It is a CO2 neutral house, built with materials from local producers only. By building the house in timber, one benefits of a house that is capable of handling the overall temperature changes of today. The garden (in the "thumb") contributes with regulating the indoor climate. Here one can grow both herbs and vegetables. The roof is equipped with Solar Panels towards south, which provides the house with heating.
