----- English ------

Institute for Colour is an artist group working with self-organisation, DIY strategies, art education and alternative pedagogy. They participated in last year’s Lofoten International Art Festival (LIAF), and in 2006 arranged the summer academy Scramble for Survival at Oslo Kunstforening.
During 2005/2006 the group organised their own education, based on alternative pedagogy and do-it-yourself principles.

The Institute for Colour consist of Silje Rønneberg Hogstad, Steffen Håndlykken and Ingrid Lønningdal, who all have a background from the former Institutt for Farge at the National Academy of the Arts, Oslo. After the department of painting was closed in the 1980s, the Institutt for Farge became an alibi for artistic practices ranging from performance to text. After a restructuring of the National Academy in 2004, the Institutt for Farge was discontinued in an attempt to strengthen the profile of the faculty. We have kept the name, not because it is descriptive of our practice, but because its history is still relevant.

Since 2006 our work has engaged questions of autonomy, the role of theory in art production, and issues of art education and communication. We aim to develop projects based on social processes and collective material, rather than personal signatures.
